  • Owen County Water Day
    Saturday September 23rd | 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM

The Owen County SWCD and Purdue Extension are hosting the first annual Owen County Water Day! Join us at the MYPath Trailhead Shelter (Cooper Commons Park & South Main Street) for this family and kid-friendly event with lots of hands-on activities about water quality, water conservation and water safety, all celebrating the White River.

There will be a special live animal education program at 11am with Crocodile Kelly of Silly Safaris. Be sure not to miss this fun, factual, and comedic program that will highlight animals that live in or near the water. And don’t forget to check out the ‘portable creek’ area to learn about macroinvertebrates that indicate healthy streams, watch rain simulation on cover crop demonstrations, and meet staff from the local water company.

Many organizations are partnering on this event to bring interactive, hands-on activities related to protecting our lakes, rivers, and streams. The goal of this event is to increase awareness within the community about how our choices impact the rest of the watershed.

  • White River Paddle
    Saturday September 23rd | 09:00 AM - 02:00 PM

Come paddle the most scenic stretch of the Upper White River from Daleville to Anderson past Mounds State Park. Local experienced guides from Heart of the River will interpret natural and historical features along the way. This stretch features exceptional floral diversity resulting from the numerous ground water fed wetlands in this portion of the valley. Hear about the improvements in water quality that have resulted over the past several decades from conservation tillage and the hard work of the Muncie Bureau of Water Quality to eliminate industrial discharges in Delaware County.

You may bring your own boat or rent canoes or kayaks from Canoe Country (765) 378-7358. The following rental rates apply from Canoe Country:

    Canoes – $ 28.00
